Remembering Private John Henry Plant, RAMC attd 1st Bn., Royal Scots Fusiliers, who died on 27th March 1916.

John’s name was omitted from the Parish Memorial, despite his father having subscribed to the fund, because he had married and moved to Shuttlewood. The rules were that a man must still be living in Staveley when he enlisted for his name to be added.

Remembering today… Horace Wetton

Remembering Rifleman Horace Wetton, 10th Bn., King’s Royal Rifle Corps who died on 13th March 1916.

He is buried at the Essex Farm Cemetery where Lieutenant-Colonel John McCrae of the Canadian Army Medical Corps wrote the poem ‘ In Flanders Fields’ in May 1915.
