Junior pupils at Poolsbrook, Norbriggs, Woodthorpe and Barrow Hill Primary Schools have been busy taking part in medal-making workshops this week with Natalie and Donna from Growth Ltd.
They found out what it means to be brave and learned about local hero, Fred Greaves V.C.
Some of the children will be wearing their medals and joining the parade at the upcoming Armed Forces weekend.
The Staveley Remembrance Association will be hosting an exhibition at the Staveley Armed Forces and Veterans event on 11th and 12th July at Poolsbrook Country Park.
Please come along and meet our researchers, contributors and guests. We have performances, authors, a medal expert and much more. WW1 displays will showcase the work of local groups, organisations and individuals to commemorate WW1.
There will also be an opportunity to view the Association’s proposals for renovating the Staveley Garden of Remembrance and to give your views on these.
The annual 2 day Staveley Armed Forces and Veterans Event was held on 12th and 13th July at Poolsbrook Country Park. The event began with a parade and a specially written memorial service to commemorate the centenary of WW1.
Amongst the many activities taking place were a gun dog display and a fun dog show, brass bands, singers, a funfair and a variety of stalls and games. The highlight of the weekend was a flypast by a Spitfire and a Dakota.
The event raised funds to support the “Hounds for Heroes” charity.
