The men on the Staveley Parish Memorial came from Staveley Town, from the villages of Barrow Hill, Mastin Moor, Poolsbrook and Woodthorpe – and from the hamlets of Hollingwood Common and Inkersall. Many of them worked for the Staveley Coal and Iron Company or for the Midland and Great Central Railways. Most of them were ironworkers, coal miners and railway men. Ordinary men who did extraordinary things.
We have a vast amount of further information about many of these men, including service records, census and medal information. If you are researching a casualty from the area, please contact us to find out what information we hold. We will be only too pleased to help if we can.
